Invitation to the Open Meeting of Women Defend Rojava

by Women Defend Rojava Dresden

Dear friend,

Patriarchy. Everywhere. In this city, in this country, in this world. But this is not given by nature. It doesn’t have to be that way. Patriarchy is old – humanity is older! We are convinced that a better world, a free life for all is possible.

The Kurdish women’s movement is an important point of reference for us as women and people of other oppressed genders. In this movement, connecting and uniting is central and we draw a lot of hope and strength from it. We would like to share this with you and let the strength grow in us to smash this system.

In order to create a space for meet each other and for exchange, we invite all women, lesbians, non-binary, inter *, trans * and a-gender people to our open meeting of Women Defend Rojava Dresden on November 3rd at 6pm at Verein Deutsch-Kurdischer Begegnung.

The feminist campaign Women Defend Rojava was founded in 2019 by the women’s movement of Rojava. Rojava is an area in northern and eastern Syria (part of Kurdistan) where an autonomy based on grassroots democracy, ecology, and women’s liberation has been built by the Kurdish freedom movement since 2012. The Kurdish freedom movement sees patriarchy as the basis of domination and oppression. Feminist resistance is therefore for them – and also for us – at the center of the struggle for a better life.

We are internationalists who feel connected to the struggle in Kurdistan. Therefore, it is our task to contribute to the defense of the revolution from the permanent threat of war by the Turkish state. We do this, for example, by organizing demonstrations or information events. But we are also convinced that the best defense is to organize and build a different system, a system without oppression and domination.

If you are interested, we would be happy to see you at our meeting!

Until then, we send you militant feminist greetings and are looking forward to get to know you!
